Kyocera Ceramic Horizontal Y Peeler, Yellow

Needs improvement
Initially I loved this product, and recommended it to many friends as a must have kitchen tool. The ceramic blade stays sharp and peels veggies easily. However, I have had it about 6 months, with very intermittent use, and no longer recommend. It keeps getting clogged because of a piece of plastic that separates from the ceramic. I finally had to throw it away. Highly recommend a ceramic blade, but there is a design flaw with this model.

Sharp and will not cut you
Well, it will not cut you if you are just a little bit careful... The ceramic blade is very sharp and stays that way. Unlike a metal blade it does not rust or quickly lose its edge. You can put it in the dishwasher and it will come out clean and sharp, not rusty and dull. The Y-blade version is great for large vegetables like potatoes. If you want to peel thinner veggies, like carrots, Kyocera has another version. I have both.I have had different Kyocera peelers for at least 15 years. Eventually the plastic that holds the blade gets old and cracks. My peelers last around a decade before that happens. You can expect to use this for a long time. Enjoy.

Use with extreme care.
Be very careful with this peeler. It is extremely sharp. While peeling a potato it slipped and sliced off the tip of my pinkie. Blood was gushing everywhere. The wound took over a month to heal. I am not a novice with peelers. I have been cooking for decades. Just be careful.

Indispensable!
I already had a similar ceramic peeler and looking for a backup peeler so that I would never be without one...yes, they are that indispensable! This new peeler is just as good as my old one...and believe me, not all of them are! I bought the white one since it cost a little less than the other color options and color made no difference to me. However, after peeling a bag of carrots, the handle did have a little orange discoloration... that doesn’t bother me since I was more concerned about performance. If it is an issue for you, you might want to order it in a darker color. I have only had this ceramic peeler for a couple of days so I can’t rate its durability but I feel pretty good about it...even ordered 3 more for my daughters!

The older one lasted 12 years
I searched my emails to find out when and where I had bought this same peeler and to my surprise it was March 2006. I bought 2 of them from a cookware site. The first lasted a couple of years, but the second one lasted way longer. Yes, this ceramic peeler lasted 12 years. The only thing I ever had to do for maintenance was clean it after use. The blade held up nicely this entire time, until it finally cracked. I can only hope that this new one will last as long.

My favorite peeler
This peeler is lightweight, very sharp, has a grip that fits my hand well and peels almost all vegetables and fruits short of acorn squash. You can even peel firm tomatoes without first blanching them to loosen the skin. The ceramic blade will stay very sharp for a year or more, even under daily use. Even after the edge wears down some, it still performs well, just not quite tomato-peeling well.

Y peelers are such a better design
Update - While I love it and will but again it is hopelessly chipped after 1yr of use peeling cucumbers. I have now thrown out all the other straight style peelers because these are so much easier to use and have so much less wasted produce.I only wish there was a hole in the handle so I could hang it easily

Broke after 5 uses
the plastic clip which retains the ceramic blade was bowed to begin with. Food constantly got caught in it and after about five uses the plastic clip broke and the blade fell out rendering it useless.Usually Kyocera makes good products but this was defective from the very start.

Perfect
I bought one of these a few years ago at SWMBO's insistence - I've never been a fan/prefer a knife. But totally converted - it was great - really sharp and stayed sharp. I've just bought a new one because we've lost the last one (possibly thrown out with the potato peelings).

Not just a peeler...
Ok, it is just a peeler if you get right down to it, but to be fair it is the best peeler I've ever used. Have owned a number of peelers over the years, even had another ceramic one (quite a bit cheaper than this one!), but none of them lived up to the quality of this tiny little kitchen friend.Nicely formed handle that is easy to hold; the blade pivots around effortlessly and just glides through any vegetable you care to throw at it. It peels a beautifully thin layer, and never seems to snag on anything.Never thought I'd want to wax lyrical about a kitchen device so pedestrian as a vegetable peeler, but there you go, quality will always shine through.

Incredible
My first ceramic blade. This thing is fantastic, the peel just comes off with almost no effort. I don't know how strong it is, so I am wary of dropping it. Time will tell how long it will last, but if I do manage to break it, I will replace it immediately!!I am never buying a non-ceramic blade again!!! I cannot recommend this highly enough, it is a real treat to use.

Brilliant peeler!!!
I got the peeler as I've had very little luck with cheap peelers from the supermarket, have a Kyocera printer and that had given me a lot of trust in the brand.Didn't realise the peeler was coming from abroad so a little suprised at it not being with me almost instantly. Once I saw from other reviews that it was coming from abroad then actually delivery was quite prompt. The peeler itself is amazing. I wouldn't have thought the ceramic blade could make such a difference but it really is incomparable to any other peeler I've used - especially on tougher veg such as butternut squash or turnip (or swede).I would recomend to anyone and already have to a number of colleagues and friends.
