Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon

The Man Comes Around
I have read all of Pastor Greg’s books with the exception of this one. I have been a fan of Cash for years and when this book came out on the heals of the Steve McQueen effort I was excited to read it. For some reason, I never did until this week.God’s timing is always right. It was just what I needed for the season in which I find myself. Gritty, honest, and and real, just like Cash himself, pastor Greg did an honor to Johnny’s career and legacy. John R Cash is one person I will look for when I go home to heaven.

Good
Good book. A bit boring in the beginning— but I love Cash’s story. Glad I stuck with it.

Incredible - finally finished a "beach book"
With as much information there is on the life of Johnny Cash, this book brought even more. The common thread of faith and the struggles Cash are very relatable. For me this book was a page turner that I couldn't put down. I am also a seriously slow reader, but I finished this one in four days.

Good book
Good book. Good story. But like his book on McQueen, I think he’s a little nostalgic about Cash as well, as if he’s living vicariously through them. He wears dark designer looking clothes every time he preaches. I’m fine with telling the story of these people but just leave it at that. Cash and McQueen were larger than life icons, and their stories show us the power of the gospel to change us. Greg nailed this with both men. Just not sure what his deal is with his outfits lately, as of he’s trying to give an ode to his hero’s . The Christian life isn’t about trying to be cool. Johnny may have been the Godfather of. cool but look what his coolness cost him in the long run? Sounds like Johnny saw the empty vanity of most of his life. None of these icons are worth emulating. Because if not for God Johnny’s life probably would’ve ended the way he lived it.

The best JC book I have ever read
I must confess I am only 5 chapters in and, unheard of for me, I am giving this 5 out of 5.A lifelong JC fan who heard his music played whilst in my cot, I have read all the books and biographies about him but this IS the definitive one, not whitewashing over the bad and wild times but addressing them because after all they are part of him and important in his recovery to being the person he was.I don't see him through rose tinted glasses, I see him as a survivor, fighting his demons every day. Some days they won. Quite simply the best JC book I've ever read.

Looks like a good book.
My husband hasn’t read this yet but the photos and reviews indicate that it’s going to be a good one.
