Baby Einstein - Baby Monet - Discovering the Seasons

Where's Julie?
Baby Monet is miss, miss, miss and hit. There is some gorgeous footage of the changing seasons (where you see a solitary waterfall, or a tree morphing through the four seasons), but the rest of the DVD is a disgusting and painful wail of a flick. First of all Julie Clark gets underused. You briefly hear her little pixie voice, but she never gets to recite any of her whimsical, pretty, poetry. Then there are these less-than-cute zebra puppets. Their day glo colors are annoying. The tall zebra should have been paired with something friendly and small and round--instead of that horrible bird. Colorful zebras bouncing up and down are a bore. The puppets do this dated endless dance "with attitude" (yawn) toward the end of the DVD that will make you want to throw baby food at the television! The zebras are superimposed over gorgeous footage that gets soiled with their day-glo presence. Most of the puppet jokes are awful (especially the one with the blow dryer). The video has relatively few toys and mobiles in it and the footage it uses of babies looks like a string of the bad outtakes that should have been dumped in the waste can. The DVD also recylces old Baby Einstein music and mixes it with some ho-hum new stuff. For the sake of the series, Disney should give complete creative control back to Julie Clark for the next 3 DVDs, hire Markie Post to do the puppets again, and get Bill W. to do ALL the music. The credits at the end of this DVD are too long. Too many untalented people had their mediocre fingers in this mush of a pie.

Not best, but worth a look
Unlike others, my daughter (20-month old) likes this BE dvd. She loved it when it was new, watching it constantly. But she also enjoys nature scenes and paintings as much as the toys/kids. She laughs at the zebras, especially when they don on suntan lotion and pretend to be sheep. For a quicker view, she enjoys a guessing game with the extra "Looking at the Seasons."The only part we both hate are the flashcards. They are the months in several languages which wouldn't be bad if the pictures were engaging, but the scene never changes from a cartoon backdrop. And the other flashcards are art, but they don't have autoplay.

Great - for toddlers and 2's
My son was over 2 before we introduced BE videos. There are definitely those which cater to the younger baby with lots of random images, but this one is great in that it has puppet shows with a little plot, as well as discrete integrated units for each of the seasons. Unlike some of the other BE's with random visuals, here the visuals truly support the learning objective desired. Concur with other reviewers as well that this is the most robust BE video in Bonus Features. It has both puppet shows and another short learning video of all the seasons. And no I didn't care for the commercial either....

Makes My Baby Laugh
I bought this DVD used for my son who is 14 months old. It does not keep him engaged the entire time, but honestly, I don't want that for him at his age. I don't want him watching that much television. He enjoys playing with his toys to the music while the paintings are being shown, but when the puppets come out, he stops what he is doing to watch them and just laughs and laughs till they go away. He enjoys it and I enjoy hearing his sweet laugh!

Not enough Monet, too many commercials
There are only a few of Monet's artworks seen here in the DVD. My sons enjoyed the overall content of the DVD and the music is excellent as always. I expected this to be more like the Baby Van Gogh DVD, in which Van Gogh's works are prominently displayed.I also hated the commercials at the beginning of the DVD. My husband and I found a way to fast forward through them, but we have noticed that this is an alarming trend in new kids DVDs. I do not want to hear about the new "Little Einstein" series (which is primarily what these commercials are promoting).

Don't Buy if you have Amazon Prime!
My 3 month old loves this DVD. It is perfect for keeping his attention for 20 mins while I get ready for the day. My only suggestion is that if you have a TV that is connected to the internet and you have prime, DON'T BUY THIS! If you download the prim app you can stream this and many of the other Baby Einstein's for free. Wish I would have known that before I purchased this DVD.

Can't go wrong with Baby Einstein
My grandson who are now 2 and half and 5 love their Baby Einstein dvd's so much so that I have had to replace some of them over the years. Though my oldest has graduated to Little Einsteins he still loves to watch the Baby ones. I attribute their knowledge of numbers, colors, etc. to what these Dvd's have provided them along with classical music. They especially like the puppet parts interspersed with real life scenes. This keeps their attention. I enjoy sitting with them and watching and helping to reinforce what they are seeing and learning. I have bought other Dvd's but they want these.

the best of them all
My three year old son's favorite Baby Einstein by far!! In fact he watched it so many times it got scrathes beyond belief and now doesn't work anymore so therefore I came to amazon.com to purchase another one. Maybe I'll do the same thing in a year or so when this new copy is all messed up.The Zebras are his favorite and even for adults, it's way better than many of the other DVDs in the Baby Einstein series. Don't pay attention to the less favorable reviews - the kids LOVE THIS ONE and it's a slam-dunk purchase.
