Perfect addition to my old ThinkPad
I own a ThinPad R500 (2732-6EG). Recently I bought a 120GB SSD and I am very satisfied, but with this Leicke Ultrabay SATA2 adaptor I can use my HDD (750GB 7200 WD Black). The installation was very easy, and the drive starts immediately, I even can boot from the caddy my Windows 7 at the full speed - it runs fine, after first time checkdisk (because it is on other SATA port). Now, my SSD runs Windows 8 Pro RTM (I am a MSDNAA subscriber as I am an University professor) and my old HDD runs Windows 7 Enterprise on demand. Speeds are much faster than any external USB 2.0 boxes. The included bag is very convenient too. The packaging is reliable and strong. I have received the box at fourth day (way before the deadline, it is international delivery to remember) - very fast shipping. This caddy fits in my R500 Ultrabay (or Ultrabase, I cannot remember) slot almost perfectly. It has a retaining clip to hold the drive, not bolts so the installation is very fast and easy. Build quality is acceptable - the caddy is barely noticeable when fitted.I noticed that when the SSD is fitted in the caddy it uses blue LED light to indicate drive state (steady - ready, blinking when in use) but when the HDD is fitted - the LED doesn't lights anyway. It is not a problem, because the ThinkPad itself have its own drive usage indicator even at the better place (front of you, not at the right side - on the caddy). I discovered this today when I've used the caddy to update my SSD firmware (you know - it must not be a primary disk when updating so I booted from the HDD to update the SSD, then I used the caddy to update my other SSD from my desktop, booting from my laptop's SSD - it goes fine /with USB enclosures you cannot update the SSD firmware/)....Update - I just have noticed on the label at the caddy: "Leicke superspeed technology - Optimized for SSD"! Maybe it detects when the SSD is used? Nevertheless my old HDD works at normal speeds using AHCI and without any delays or problems.I kindly recommend this Leicke caddy to all R500 owners.

Excellent low-cost, klutz-proof near-end-of-life upgrade.
A near perfect end-of-life update for my trusty old Dell 8600, the Leicke IDE/Pata to SATA module is a slightly better fit than the Dell optical drive (which now resides in the bag Leicke provides with the caddy) and while the cosmetic finish is a little brighter than the original dull silver of the Dell it docks perfectly and that is what counts.Having fitted a Western Digital 2.5 inch Scorpio Black 750GB 7200rpm SATA 16MB Internal Hard Drive I now have ten times the on-board storage, read-write speeds are improved out of all recognition and the new disk is practically inaudible.Offhand I can't think of an easier or more cost-effective upgrade for those averse to digging around in their computer's innards. Very highly recommended. For the benefit of other purchasers DON'T do what I did, which was to slap the new drive into the Leicke caddy as soon as it arrived (thanks again, Amazon) and the caddy into the Dell, then had a minor panic attack when it wouldn't install the new drive. While a 'found new hardware' pop-up told me the drive was 'seen', Windows XP didn't assign a drive letter and searchin on-line didn't help, but extracting the new drive and loading it into a SATA/USB dock did.Using a Windows 7 laptop - an OS modern enough to be able to more easily diagnose a late model drive - I discovered the disk was visible but only as a number, and the drop-down menu gave 'initialise this disk' as an option. When I did so the option to format the drive appeared, Win7's 'simple format' put NTFS on the drive in less time than it took to slip it back int he caddy and the caddy into the Dell.

Great alternative to Lenovo's expensive Ultrabay
I wanted to upgrade my T420 Lenovo laptop HD to an SSD disk while keeping the default hard drive in the Ultrabay slot for storage/backup purposes but it was not easy to find an Ultrabay adapter which I could be sure to fit and work properly.I decided to try the Leicke Ultrabay since they claimed that it would fit a T420 laptop.Well, it does, and does it very well. The look is a perfect fit on the laptop side and you could only notice to be 3rd party if someone tells you.The bay has a blue led which is always on (it's dim enough not to bother) and when the drive is working it flashes.I tested the bay both with SSD and the original drive and in both cases it worked perfectly. I even booted from it without knowing.. only discovered because Windows load time was slow (not SSD fast). My only complain is that you do not have a way to mount the disk inside it securely. As it is currently designed it is simply hold by the connector itself and a plastic tab on the back. However, if you turn the bay upside down the disk may disconnect. This can happen while transporting the laptop. I circumvented this by placing a plastic frame (that came with the SSD disk) on top of the disk. This way the drive doesn't have enough space to get disconnected. I would prefer however a more sturdy approach like the possibility to use at least one of the disk screws.Leicke also includes a soft pouch with the bay which I currently use to keep my DVD drive on my laptop bag.

Sits flush in a w530 but looks cheaper than Lenovo's bay.
I am using this with an Lenovo w530, other laptops may differ.-The bay sits relatively snug with roughly 0.5-1mm give or take between the drive and the laptop enclosure surrounding. This is a far sight better than the 9mm bays that leave larger gaps but it's not perfect.-The plastic does not match the laptop's matte plastic, the bay has a glossier finish but at a glance is fine.-Blue LED is both bright and does not match the softer green lights on the w530. This isn't a major issue and it's not all that hard to resolder a more desirable activity light. These few niggling flaws are acceptable though in the end as the drive is half the price of the official lenovo 12mm bay so i would fully recommend this product to other Thinkpad users that wish to save a few quid.
